Triple the Texture 12-Block Throw

For an afghan that looks more complicated than it is, look no further. Three basic blocks, worked in different color combinations, are joined as they’re worked to make this 12-block throw. Each block pattern has its own texture: bobbles on one, openwork on a second, and smooth for the third. MATERIALS:

1. Red Heart® “Super Saver®”: 3 Skeins each 400 Heather Gray A and 931 Seagrass B; 2 skeins each 313 Aran C and 661 Frosty Green D; and 1skein 320 Cornmeal E
2. Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]
3. Yarn needle
4. Scissors

GAUGE: 13 sc = 4”; 14 rows = 4”. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.
Special Abbreviation
MB (make bobble) = yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops, [yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 3 times, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.

To join on one side – Final Round: Join next color in any corner space, ch 3, 2 dc in same space, ch 1; holding wrong side together, sc in corner ch-3 space of completed square, ch 1, 3 dc in same space, sc in next ch-1 space of completed square, [3 dc, sc in next ch-1 space of completed square] 7 times evenly distributed to next corner space, 3 dc in next corner space, ch 1, sc in ch-3 space of completed square, ch 1, 3 dc in same corner space, ch 1; complete round as for first square.
Join subsequent squares in the manner above, joining 1 or 2 sides as required, join to corner of previously joined squares by working sc in ch-1 of previous joining.

Ch 6 and join with slip st to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 3, [3 dc in ring, ch 3] 3 times, join with slip st to top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Round 2: Join next color to any ch-3 space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space (corner made), ch 1, [(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 space, ch 1] 3 times, join with slip st to top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Round 3: Join next color to any ch-3 space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, [(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into next ch-3 space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1] 3 times, join with slip st to top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Round 4: Join next color to any ch-3 space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into same space, ch 1, *[3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1] 2 times**, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into next ch-3 space, ch 1, repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join with slip st to top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Round 5: Join next color to any ch-3 space, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into same space, ch 1, *[3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1] 3 times**, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into next ch-3 space, ch 1, repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join with slip st to top of ch-3.
Round 6: Ch 1, [sc in each dc and each ch-1 space and 5 sc in each ch-3 space] around, join with slip st in first sc.
Round 7: Ch 1, [sc in each sc and 3 sc in center st of each 5-sc group] around, join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
Round 8: Join next color, ch 1, [sc in each sc and 3 sc in center st of each 3-sc group] around, join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
Round 9: Join next color and repeat Round 8.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in next 4 sc, [MB, sc in next 5 sc] 3 times, MB, sc in next 4 sc; turn.
Row 5-7: Repeat Row 1.
Row 8: Ch 1, sc in next 7 sc [MB, sc in next 5 sc] two times, MB, sc in next 7 sc; turn.
Repeat Rows 1-8 two times.
Repeat Rows 1-7 once more. Fasten off.
