Sewing tutorial: Strawberry Mini Pin Cushions

One problem I have while hand sewing are the pins.  I mean, sure there is that little tomoto where pins can go, but a lot of times I’ll wander off with my pinned project, I’ll be cutting, and sewing, and I don’t want a loose tomoto.  I saw these mini strawberries (and the tutorial here) you can attach to your tools to solve this little problem. These also help identify which tool belongs to you in a group of sewers.  I mostly sew by myself at about 3 am, but if my dogs take up sewing, we’ll never get our tools mixed up.

As for the process, I’m going to blog it here, I’m always afraid links will disappear.  I made four of these guys, one for me, and three for sewing friends, but I don’t think I’m finished with these cute little guys. I puffy heart this project.

Mini Strawberry Pin Cushion How To

1.  I cut 3×3 squares out of this fabric I bought a year or so ago for no reason other than the fact that I fell in love with it, I do this too often.  Fold it over, and cut a curve.

2.  Sew down the raw edge, and then again across the bottom to create a flat bottom.

3.  Thread a needle along the top edge, and stuff….stuff…stuff.  Pull, and tie off.

4.  Cut a 2×4 piece from green fabric.  Fold it, with the right side facing out.  Trace leaves (4-5).  Sew.  Cut.  The raw edge will be exposed.  I can live with that.

5.  Cute a small slit in the center, thread a ribbon through.  Tie a knot.

6.  Glue the ribbon down with hot glue.

7.  Glue with leaves onto the strawberry.

8.  Repeat 6,547 times.

And they all lived happily ever after.
