Gift presents: Simple Braided Headband Tutorial!

Hair  |  August 2nd 2011  |  0 Comment
I love to look at fancy, frilly things, but when it comes to wearability I almost always go with something simple. Something like this!

It’s super-duper easy to make. And no sewing! (Another hot dog!)
  1. Start by cut some scrap leather or vinyl into three 1/4″x25″ strips
  2. Pin them down and braid until you have enough to cover your headband.
  3. Tie off one end with a knot, snip any extra material and put a dot of hot glue to hold the knot.
  4. Tuck the end of a small plastic headband (Dollar Tree, 4/$1) into (the flat side of) your knot and glue.
  5. Hot glue the braid to the headband, tying the other end and tucking the other end of your headband into the knot. (Wait until the end to tie the second knot to be sure that your braid is just the right length.)
Wasn’t that fun and easy?
Then you can try adding some fun embellishments!
A couple of tips:
  • If your source of leather or vinyl isn’t long enough to cut 25″ strips, you can piece together shorter pieces with glue. Just be sure that the “seam” is hidden in the braiding process.
  • If you prefer the other type of headband, you can easily sew elastic to the ends instead of gluing it to a headband.
