Fashion gifts for kids: Ice cream cone silhouette t-shirt sewing tutorial

Sewing for kids

I used my Silhouette software to purchase an ice cream cone design for $0.99, separated all the elements, and made a few extra cones in case I ran into any problems.

The instructions for cutting with the Sewable Fabric Interfacing were straightforward and very easy to follow. I made sure to use the “Double Cut” option to make sure that my shapes went through cleanly with no tearing.

The wrong side of the fabric is a little shiny, and that’s because of the Sewable Interfacing:

The Sewable Interfacing allowed me to iron the cone directly onto the t-shirt. It stayed put long enough for me to do a zig-zag stitch all the way around the shape…to hold it in place and to keep it from fraying:

I layered the “strawberry” ice cream on top and did the same stitch all the way around.

Time for a “cherry” on top!

Cute…but it needed something else!

I used my Silhouette and some Flocked Heat Transfer material to cut the word “sweet” out and iron onto the shirt!

Sweet, indeed!

Michaela Byrd was napping, but Natalie wanted to try hers on right away.
